Someone opened a window

It is a feeling as if someone opened a window, this I heard in a comment in German TV news life from Washington. I can remember the time I listened to Martin Luther King. I feeled a fresh air but than someone closed the window, closed the window forcibly. Today there is someone who opened this window again.

Henrichenburg boat lift

On the way to Dortmund port on the Dortmund-Ems-Kanal ships have to pass a boat lift. Very interesting is the new boat lift. It was opened in 1962 and has a trough length of 90 meters and a width of 12 meters In 2005 it was taken out of use because it was to small for modern ships.

A fairy tale castle

Neuschwanstein Castle in the southwest of Bavaria looks like a fairy tale castle. This castle was ordered by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and it was opened in 1886. Many fairy tale castle in movies and even in some of the Disneyland Parks are modeled on  Neuschwanstein Castle.

Giant Panda in Berlin Zoo

The original Elephant Gate built in 1899 was completely destroyed in the last war and reconstructed in 1984.

The most popular resident of the Berlin Zoo is the Giant Panda BaoBao born in 1978 anf in Berlin Zoo since 1980

My Grandmother

I do not know my grandmother personally because she died when she was young. So this is a photo showing her in the middle of the 20th of the last century, yes this photo is about 80 years old. So you can see the fashion of that time in Germany too.

Sri Lanka, Sigiriya and the cloud damsels

When you do not like snow and cold weather what about Sri Lanka?
I show you the big Sigiriya rock, 200 m high. On the top was a castle by King Kassapa in the 4the century A.D. On the way to the flat top of the rock you have to pass the Lion Gate and you will see the magnificent frescoes on the wall.
